"Mr. Murphy Goes to Washington: Eddie Murphy and Co. Turn In a Distinguished Political Sendup"
By David Hunter

(excerpt)
…Director Jonathan Lynn elevated My Cousin Vinny from a zippy legal satire to a near-classic earlier this year. He has accomplished even more with The Distinguished Gentleman, fashioning an essentially small, character-driven film with a big star. The landscape is littered with the carcasses of recent failures to shoehorn big shots into compact vehicles (Oscar, Housesitter). The Distinguished Gentleman is a perfect fit.
