Party Games was the 1984 Christmas special. This land-mark episode marked the end of the ‘Yes Minister’ series and paved the way for it’s sequel ‘Yes Prime Minister’.

The seasonal festivities at the Dept of Administrative Affairs are overshadowed by rumours of a Cabinet reshuffle as the Prime Minister announces that he intends to step down. The two leading contenders hoping to succeed him are persuaded to step down when it's revealed that civil servants plan to leak details of past indiscretions. Jim Hacker becomes the surprise favourite to get the job when the Civil Service decides to back him.
